Description
"Magdeburg Bastion Cleve Gebhardt and Magdeburg Cathedral" by Thomas Bugdoll
Magdeburg Cathedral is the city's landmark. The cathedral is the first Gothic cathedral to be designed from the outset and the earliest completed Gothic cathedral on German soil.
The Cleve bastion is the south-eastern end of the former Magdeburg fortress. The central element of the bastion is the medieval Cleve fortified tower, which was supplemented with additional facilities in the 16th century and later incorporated into the baroque Cleve bastion. Remnants of the medieval city wall running to the north and west can still be seen.
